Yes, he can enroll with the CFE but he will have to pay a premium at the time of enrollment (two years of premium last time I checked). You will be able to be on his cover as long as you are considered a dependant - i.e. you have no income or a very meagre one. Should you move to France, you will automatically be covered by the French security system after six months of living there.

Just to be clear, all of the above concerns the healthcare part of the CFE. The retirement part is individual and you'll not accrue any benefit on this side unless you work in France or become French and register with the CFE in your own name.

Bonjour Jacques, I am a lithuanian citizen about to marry French, both living in the UAE and plan to stay here for another few years. My husband to be has lived out of France for 20 years and is not registered with CFE. If he enrolls for CFE and gets expatriate medical insurance cover, will I be able to benefit as his spouse and have a medical cover too? I read that a souse can only benefit in cases where she is dependant on her husband meaning has no personal income...is that true? Another question is, what are the requirements for proving my husband's income (as I understood the cover rates are based on the income)? Then, should I be employed and not benefit from my husband being part of CFE for expatriates, can I still benefit when we go to France and I would be unemployed? I am thinking to get an individual insurance while in Dubai but if I can benefit on a long term by acrruing pension benefits while retiring in France I'd rather chose to be registered as dependant of my husband under CFE. Thank you in advance! Natalie_biz@hotmail.com

If you hold French passport and were in the system in the past, it should be possible.
The best is for you to check with them directly at courrier@cfe.fr

If you live in France, you will have to pay your taxes there. It may cost you a bit to enjoy the French countryside (or Paris, but I doubt you'll retire in our bustling capital :), but you will also be entitled to the French Social Security and its protections.

I'm not sure for the CFE as you've never been in the system. The best would be for you to check with them directly at courrier@cfe.fr

Hi Jacque,

I live in New Zealand, am a German citizen tho. My mother is German, my dad was french. I have both passports.
I am planning on returning to Europe to live and am looking at my options. I would like to live in France but my french is poor and I am not sure whether or not I will be covered there for health etc.
As I do have a french passport, what are my options? Is CFE for me?

Thank you very much
